What's it About

A penetrating profile of choreographer Paul Taylor's modern dance company, this film profiles the blissful torture of the modern dance world: the physical exertion involved (and its long-term effects), the cutthroat competition, and the absence of financial rewards. All this is borne for the special exhilaration of performance, and the chance to work with an acknowledged master.

Why we love it

As glimpsed by director-interviewer Matthew Diamond, the legendary Taylor is at once a brutal task-master; insecure about his work; and overall, a somewhat remote human being, owing to a solitary early life in foster care. However, a pure love of dance is the unifying, invigorating force for him and his company. We are the beneficiaries of that all-consuming passion in this candid, behind-the-scenes look at an authentic artistic institution.
