Vive La France!

Title: The Dinner Game (1998), d. Francis Veber
Starring: Thierry Lhermitte, Jacques Villeret
Summary: An effete clique of Parisians competes to see who can bring the biggest idiot to their regular dinner parties. Pierre believes he’s won top prize by producing the lowly, trivia-obsessed accountant Pignion, but things soon grows more complicated, especially when Pignion declares himself wise in the ways of love. Which is the real fool?
Dress: Decide if you’re on Pierre’s side or Pignion’s. Sharp city fashion for the former; nerd wear for the latter.
Music: Les chanteurs Francais incomparables: Edith Piaf, Michel Legrand, Charles Trenet, Yves Montand, and Maurice Chevalier.
Food: You can go haute French and do noisettes of lamb with artichokes – not so difficult actually – or rustic bistro French with beef Bourguignon, but go French. Brie and crackers afterwards.
Drink: No respectable French dining table lacks good Bordeaux, Cognac and perhaps Calvados to finish.
