What It's About:
Assigned to investigate veteran colleague Robert Hanssen (Cooper), a Russian intelligence expert suspected of sexual deviance, junior FBI agent Eric O'Neill (Phillippe) shortly uncovers evidence thats even more disturbing: Hanssen's been selling government secrets. As the awful truth about Hanssen's activities begins to surface, O'Neill's loyalties to Hanssen, himself, and the ideals of the agency are called into question.
Why I Love It:
Based on a true story about one of the worst national-security breaches in FBI history, Ray's engrossing espionage thriller draws a bead on the sometimes dangerous contradictions of human character: Hanssen is a devout Catholic and career spook so trusted he is asked to investigate his own crimes, making his traitorous transgressions almost inexplicable Cooper plays Hanssen with cool, poker-faced professionalism, and Phillippe imparts the right mix of naivete and determination to O'Neill. For smart thrills, fall into this "Breach."
